Oct. 2010 - Thanks to everyone for the gift items for our military guys and gals on our "Shoebox Project" list. We plan to ship boxes in time to arrive before Christmas.
Thanks to those who made generous donations, we were able to send ten Christmas gift boxes to members of the military. A thank-you note received by the RWCC is included here. (Brian serves in Special Forces; for that reason his last name has been omitted.)
"Sept. 2010: Dear Ladies of the RWCC,
Thank you so much for supporting my team and me during our deployment to Afghanistan! We are on our way home from a very challenging year. It makes a difference knowing so many people back home appreciate the sacrifices we made.
I am very much looking forward to enjoying a beautiful Midwest autumn. And, the way things are shaping up, I cannot wait for the November elections! It's time for a New Hope & Change!
Thank you again for the thoughts, prayers, and care packages!
Yours,
LCDR Brian ......."

At the September 28th meeting, we voted on our bylaws changes and planned for the months ahead. We got the boxes ready to send out to the troops - we need more items to finish filling them, so please drop off items by headquarters during open hours. We have more troops to whom we are sending boxes. Several are heading home that we have supported with boxes in the past.
Thanks to everyone for the gift items for our military guys and gals on our "Shoebox Project" list. We receive many thank-you notes from them.
We appreciate your generosity. For a list of suggestions for future donations, please check at the suggested list, click here.

There were two meetings of the RWCC in July
Sharon Hanek, from Olympia, is the special guest speaker on July 30th at Republican Headquarters. This event will be in addition to the Republican Women of Clallam County's usual monthly meeting on July 27th.
Sharon, the Research Mom, will speak primarily on education, the influence of environmentalism on our education system, and activism. This event is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. until approximately 9:00 p.m. Men are invited.
Contributions of desserts will be welcomed, but bringing one is optional.
For more information, please contact Susan at rescueliberty@q.com.
The June meeting featured state legislature candidates Jim McEntire and Dan Gase. They each spoke about their reasons for running, gave their backgrounds, and fielded questions from those present.
The May 25, 2010 meeting was held at 6:30 (6:00 for dinner) at Jeremiahs BBQ Restaurant in Sequim.
Our guest speakers were Doug Cloud and Jesse Young, both hoping to win Norm Dicks’ seat in Congress. Each of the men shared their philosophy, their ideas for change in Washington, D.C., and answered questions from the audience.
Thanks to everyone for the gift items for our military guys and gals on our "Shoebox Project" list. We plan to send the next shipment at the end of July. For information about preferred items please call 683-5079 (message phone) after May 5th. Items may be left at headquarters. For a list of suggestions please check at www.clallamrepublicans.org.
Steve Marble addresses water issues in Clallam County
Realtor and property rights activist Steve Marble of Sequim spoke about the water issues and regulations coming to Clallam County at the March 23, 2010 meeting of the RWCC.
Steve covered the Instream Flow Rule issued by Washington State Department of Ecology, and how the water levels required in the river backed by "modeling" cannot realistically be met, which will cause a huge reduction in the number of new wells. That, along with the metering of wells, poses additional restrictions and fees on property owners. To read his report, go to the Citizen Review Online, click here.
Due to the RWCC's involvement with the Clallam County Convention on April 10th, there will be no regular meeting in April. The ladies will be serving donuts, coffee, tea and water at the convention - if you're a member and would like to assist, come on April 10th at 7:30 a.m. and join us!
Installation of officers accomplished at January 2010 meeting
Our last meeting was held on Jan. 16, 2010, at the home of Martha Ireland. We had a wonderful potluck brunch, with time to get to know one another - and there are plenty of new members - a good time was had by all, with wonderful food!
Brenda Petrick, Washington Federation of Republican Women, Peninsula District Director, installed Officers for 2010-2011: Co-Presidents: Lois Perry & Sue Forde, 1st VP Susan Shotthafer; 2nd VP Ruth Hale; Treasurer Teri Schwiethale and Secretary Martha Ireland.
Sue Forde reported on shoebox project. We plan to do our next mailing at end of March. Lois can continue to do the addresses and correspondence, but we need a committee to organize the project.
Sue also covered the upcoming caucuses, fielding questions about the procedure and what was to be expected there.
Brenda gave a report about the Republican Women across the state. This year will be a turning point in history, she pointed out - hopefully turning back to the Constitutional goals of our founding fathers.
There was discussion about the types of meetings to be held this year.
We invite you to join us if you haven't already - men are also welcome to join as affiliate members.
Speaker Kaj Ahlburg discusses the potential dangers of EMPs
Our December 2009 meeting was held on December 1, 2009 at Jeremiah's BBQ in Sequim, where Kaj Ahlburg spoke about "Electromagnetic Pulse" (EMP). Kaj addressed the nature of EMP, discussed its sources (a nuclear explosion high above the atmosphere or a severe solar storm) and its likely effects on our electric grid, transportation, communications, and water, energy, food and medicine supplies. The program concluded with a discussion of ways to mitigate the threat.
Col Roberts shares thoughts about his tour during 3 wars
The October 2009 meeting featured Col. Don Roberts - who served in three wars. Col. Roberts was an extremely interesting speaker, who shared his story about how he got into the Infantry and worked his way up the hard way, on the field, to the position of colonel. He served in World War II, the Korean War (twice), and as an adviser to Vietnam for three tours of duty. He came dressed in uniform and explained the various medals he has received. He was both entertaining and very informative - offering an "on-the-ground" insight into the battles (and wars) in which he participated. The meeting was held at Jeremiah's BBQ in Sequim - thanks to the great food and service we received there!
There was no RWCC meeting in September.
Battle Captain shares insights from
Iraq at July 2009 meeting
Our July 28, 2009 meeting, held at Jeremiahs BBQ, 825 W. Washington, Sequim. Dinner, featured guest speaker Allen Toepfer, 1LT 11th MP BDE Battle Captain, who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. He shared from a first-hand perspective what's happening there, what life is like for the military in Iraq, and what the future may hold.
He also reviewed the various commendations and medals he received as a result of his service.
CCRP Chair shares experiences about living in the Middle East
Our June 23rd, 2009 was held at the Paradise Restaurant. Our speaker was CCRP chairman Dick Pilling, who shared his experience in the Middle East. His talk, "Behind the Veil", offered insights about life in the Middle East, and then answered questions.

Property rights group leader draws "A Line in the Sand"
On April 28, 2009, at the Paradise Restaurant, our guest speaker was Jim Hagen from the Olympic Stewardship Foundation, a group of like-minded citizens dedicated to the belief that those who live on the land are best capable of caring for it. His topic: “A Line in the Sand.” He reviewed the objectives of the organization, along with the actions they have successfully taken so far to rein in overly zealous bureaucracies.
The meeting in February was great! We packed up boxes for the military serving overseas, and had a great time! We're continuing to mail boxes as we get more names, so please drop off any donations by headquarters or The Master Locksmith shop in Sequim (ask for Sue or Shauna). Following is a list of recommended items to send:
