Andrew Nisbet speaks to Republican Women

Sequim resident Andrew (Andy) Nisbet and his wife Haroldine were Andy Nisbetguests of Republican Women of Clallam County (RWCC) May 22, 2007 at Las Palomas Restaurant.  Approximately 12 people attended the meeting.

Nisbet spoke about his involvement with Evergreen Freedom Foundation (EFF).  He was one of the founders, when it began 15 years ago, and also serves on the board.

Nisbet said, “after the ‘Bob Williams for Governor’ race, the foundation was formed to educate the legislature and also the public on important issues such as: education, business, and budget.  He said they realized many people serving in the legislature did not know much about government budget process.

EFF became a watchdog for the legislature and also for the public.  It was formed to educate and inform the House of Representatives and the Senate on basic principles in liberty enterprise and accountable government.

There is a newspaper and literature available for the public.  For more information Andy may be reached at ahnisbet@olypen.com.

The April 24, 2007 RWCC meeting was held at GOP County Headquarters in Port Angeles.

Jim Patterson (Support Our Troops) and Dennis Welch, a local National Guard serviceman, were our guest speakers.
They each presented very informative information about the troops, the National Guard, and the deployment to Iraq.

We thank all those who donated items for the military Easter gift boxes. We were able to put together and ship 8 boxes.

Some of the troops on our mailing list have come home, so we're looking for additional names.
If you know of anyone serving overseas, please forward their name and address to rwcc@clallamrepublicans.org

We are collecting items for our next mailing.  Please leave your gifts at headquarters, marked “For the RWCC.”  Or in Sequim, you can drop them of at The Master Locksmith's shop, 445 W. Washington, Sequim (Shauna Millar or Sue Forde).

Click here for the suggested-donations list - or for a downloadable pdf file of the suggested list, click here.

One suggested item is phone cards - the AT&T ones work over there. Also, if you don't know what to donate, you can always write a check to the RWCC and designate that it's for the soldier's boxes! It's expensive to ship them, so funding is gratefully accepted for this purpose.

For more information, call Lois at 360-683-5079.

ABOUT OUR PREVIOUS MEETINGS:

Our guest speaker for March 2007 was Sue Forde, elected Home Rule Charter commissioner. Sue reported on the various committees for the commission, and the areas that are being discussed for possible inclusion on November's ballot. She described at length the problems we're facing with eminent domain as it has been re-interpreted by the US Supreme Court, and offered potential solutions. Read our newsletter for details.
If you haven't joined us yet, please click here.

Our guest speaker in February 2007 was Steve Marble, who spoke about various pieces of legislation that are making their way through. Read the newsletter to get details! If you're not signed up for our newsletter, join today!

Our special guest on May 23rd, 2006 was Kaj Ahlburg, who made a power point presentation about Militant Islam. There was a great turnout - with about 40 folks present to learn facts about Islam that we need to know.

Dennis Falk, sponsor of a new initiative to repeal the newly-passed estate (death) tax, spoke in Port Angeles on March 28 at 6:30 p.m., at the Secret Garden Buffet. The event was open to the public.

Initiative 920 responds to the Washington State legislature's passage of RCW 83.100.040(3) a Washington State Estate Tax last year.  Chair of the Committee to Abolish the Washington State Estate Tax,  Falk  is not new to the process.  In 1981, he successfully ran a campaign to pass Initiative 402, which the voters passed it by 67 percent to abolish the gift and inheritance tax in Washington State.

In September 2005, he came out of "retirement" to start a new initiative in response to the legislature's passage of what he terms a "death tax".

"The core problem is that the confiscatory death tax rates penalize savings, investment capital and unjustly force the breakup of thousands of closely held family owned businesses and properties," Falk stated in a press release.  He said in a 1995 study, economist Dick Wagner of George Mason University calculated that the death tax costs government more money than it raises.

The February 28th, 2006 at Jeremiah's BBQ in Sequim. Former chair of the Home Rule Charter Commission Dave Cummins was the guest speaker. He briefed us on what the Home Rule Charter is, what the commission members do (there are 15 members to be elected in November this year), and other valuable information, including some good potential ideas for changes in the Charter.

We'll continue working on the Shoebox Project for our soldiers serving overseas. Contact Shauna Rash for details - 360-683-8817 or email shauna@dynamic-graphics.com

On January 28th, RWCC met at Jeremiah's BBQ in Sequim (the new restaurant owned by Mike & Kris Hallis). The officers were installed at this meeting, as follows:

The October 2005 meeting was held at the Los Palomas Mexican Restaurant in Sequim.

In September 2005, Realtor and elected Conservation District Supervisor Steve Marble spoke to us about Proposition 1 - the Buyer's Excise Tax. Read the story here.

In April 2005, JayDee Price brought and displayed the quilt she took 4 years to create especially for President George W. Bush. In October, at the request of the White House, she sent it to President Bush for his library. Watch for photos coming soon!

Our Pachyderm Project has been completed, and presented the bags to Healthy Familes.

Click here to read about it - and our new project - the "Shoebox Project" for our troops.
